Carrus Long Term Acute Care Hospital
Carrus Specialty Hospital meets the complex healthcare needs of critically ill patients who require continued medical and nursing care after discharge from a short-term acute care hospital environment. We admit patients from a strong referral base of physicians throughout the North Texas area and in Oklahoma. We serve seriously ill patients with conditions caused by disease or injuries such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, vascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, and severe trauma sustained in motor vehicle or other catastrophic accidents. Often patients’ conditions have been complicated by additional medical problems related to ventilator dependency, immobility, prolonged fasting, or severe wound infection for example.
Carefully Planned Interventions
Carrus Specialty Hospital patients require carefully planned interventions to bridge the gap between short-term acute care and their eventual transition to home or a less intensive medical care environment. Many of our patients arrive from Dallas-Fort Worth, or Oklahoma, hospitals where they received their diagnostic or surgical care, but the patients and their families want to be closer to home for the extended recovery time.
Patients eligible for care in our facility usually range in age from young adult to seniors, require approximately 9 to 14 hours per day of care from a strong multidisciplinary healthcare team, and will typically stay with us for approximately twenty-five to thirty days.
Highly Trained Health Professionals
Our Specialty Team includes highly trained, patient-centered health professionals who provide comprehensive, compassionate, and individualized high quality healthcare services. Our team is led by a group of hospitalists—physicians who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. Carrus Specialty Hospital also has an extensive roster of medical specialists on staff in the areas of Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Radiology, and more. Additional members of our team include registered nurses, vocational nurses, respiratory therapists, registered dietitians, physical therapists (lower body strength), occupational therapists (upper body strength), speech therapists, neuropsychologists, and social workers. Every professional discipline is actively engaged in our patients’ care planning and treatment.
